The Group has invested in OpenHydro, a marine technology company which designs and manufactures turbines that generate energy from tidal streams. One51 has been a shareholder in OpenHydro since 2006 and is represented on the company’s Board. In 2009 OpenHydro was named Innovative Company of the Year by Engineers Ireland and received the Company Pioneer Award at the Energy Ocean conference in the United States.

OpenHydro currently has projects underway in some of the world’s best tidal sites (identified below by dark blue shading), including Puget Sound, Bay of Fundy, Brittany, Alderney and Pentland Firth.
